About Us
The Highams Park Society was formed in 2004 and sets its goal as “Helping Promote Community Life”. The Society has a thriving membership of people who live in, or have an interest in Highams Park, Waltham Forest.
The Society’s aims are to help preserve the local heritage, help members appreciate their environment and to inform members about the history of the area.
The Society arranges a variety of activities including walks and talks. A group of volunteers tidies and looks after the garden and flower beds in Highams Park Station.
We have run a monthly Film Club at Highams Park Baptist church, which is successful.
The Society puts on an exhibition each year on topics of local interest. The subjects have included ‘Schools of Highams Park’, ‘Streets of Highams Park’, ‘The Xylonite Factory’ and ‘Lost Properties of Highams Park’.
The Society also organises the successful ‘Highams Park Day’ in July of each year and is usually held on Vincent Green, Vincent Road.
At 11pm on the Saturday nearest to 11th November of each year, the Society holds a non-denominational remembrance ceremony. This is held at the plaques from the war memorial of the former Xylonite/Halex factory which are mounted in the entrance hall of Highams Park Library.
Membership fees are kept very low and affordable and we’d be delighted to welcome you to the society. Please see the Membership page for more details.
